While there are more than 10 varieties of pears grown in the United States and more than 3,000 known varieties of pears around the world, when I say “Pear” I honestly think of these golden beauties! Growing up in the Fruit Bowl of America, pears always occupied a special place in my heart. The soft yielding sweetness of a pear, juice flowing freely, would always bring a smile to my face! And honestly nothing has changed in that picture, except knowing now that even the smile was a tonic to my body; releasing Oxytocin, the “feel good” hormone as freely as that sweet pear juice!
If somewhere along the line you forgot about Pears, this is the time to ReMember, as I like to say. Bring them back into Membership with your eating plan and invite them into the “snack” time that I encourage everyone to enjoy.
Like so many other fruits, Pears are packed with special phytonutrients; including anti-inflammatory flavonoids, anticancer polyphenols and anti-aging flavonoids. They are one of the best sources of dietary fiber among all fruits, which means that they also are capable of lowering cholesterol and inflammation, the root cause of most diseases.
They are packed with vitamin C, vitamin K and boron, which aid in bone health, and can reverse copper deficiency and low potassium, as well as a host of other vitamins and minerals.
My mouth is watering…I am wishing I had a nice juicy pear to sink into right now!! Team it up with a handful of Organic walnuts or mac nuts, and call is Perfection!!
