The Doctor’s In…Let’s Talk about Supporting the Body during Fever

Now that we understand that Fever is an indication that the body is doing more than its normal internal workand that the predominant reason for the normal internal work of the body to increase and accelerate is infection, there is really just one question to ask,

 How can we best support the body during Fever, and therefore support the body to do it’s very best healing work.” 

Keeping in mind that the body has been magnificently designed for…Self-Healing!!

So we turn our attention to the same system that the body has put into high-gear, namely the Immune System.  It comes down to these very simple supports:

Get Plenty of Rest: Your body needs plenty of time for growth & repair. Children need 10-12 hours of sleep on a daily basis. When a cold or flu appears, even more is necessary for speedy recovery & a powerful Immune System.

Turn up the Heat: Viruses are heat sensitive. Turning up the heat assists the Immune system to quickly eliminate the virus. Take hot showers, baths with added baking soda (1/4 cup), & drink hot beverages. Allow the presence of the fever to do double duty and kill viruses while demonstrating a powered up the Immune System.

Drink lots of fluids: Pure water is the best solution. Add herbs & lemon for their anti-viral qualities.

Herbal teas: Peppermint, Chamomile, Lemongrass, Licorice, Ginger.

Hot Lemonade: Lemon & raw honey boost the immune system and honey adds anti-viral affects as well.

Eliminate simple, processed sugar: Nothing stops the Immune System faster than eating processed, simple sugars. The Immune System is inactivated by as much as 50% for 3-5 hours after eating simple sugars. Stick to Real food! Real fruit & Real vegetables & use only raw honey as sweetener for a strong Immune System.

Eat simply and light: The Digestive System quiets down as the Immune System steps to the forefront. Therefore, don’t be surprised that your child has little or no appetite. This is yet another demonstration of a well-functioning Immune System and co-operation within the body’s systems. Think warm soups. Miso soup and Vegetable broth soups with garlic and dark greens, as well as carrots and onions, stand out a a particularly healing and easy to digest.

Take Vitamin C: Vitamin C is vital to proper Immune System function and when taken in regular doses, will support a speedy recovery.
